Police say a 61-year-old man was robbed and assaulted by two men near William Newton Ave. on Friday at around 1:30 a.m.

The victim had just purchased beer from a nearby vendor when he was followed by two men. He was approached from behind and was then physically assaulted by the two, who then fled after taking the victim’s beer, police said.

Members of the police canine unit were in the area on an unrelated matter when they saw the two suspects, who were then taken into custody.

Rendall Francis, 22, has been charged with violent robbery and breach of probation. He has been detained.

Another 28-year-old man is facing a charge of violent robbery, but was released.
