For the second time in 5 years the Winnipeg Goldeyes are the American Association Champions.
The Goldeyes beat the Wichita Wingnuts 11-4 in the fifth and deciding game of the league’s championship series. Reggie Abercrombie with 2 homeruns paced the Goldeyes offence as he ends the day with 7 RBI to tie a franchise post season record.
Kevin McGovern earns the win as the Goldeyes had to battle through the last two months of the season just to make the playoffs. Rick Forney’s team qualified for the post season on the final day of regulation play and entered the playoffs as the wild card team.
This is the third Championship for the franchise as the Goldeyes also won the Northern league crown in 1994.
