Firefighters battled a blaze Wednesday evening on Molson Street and Panet Road at an autobody shop.
Thick smoke spread from the fire in Winnipeg’s East Kildonan neighbourhood around 5:30 p.m. at Giardino International Auto & Tire Centre.
One witness estimated the flames reached up to 20 feet high. Another said the fire spread quickly.
"Flames were like as tall as the trees and everything so, it was pretty bad," said Teanna Gagne.
Police estimate the fire caused $600,000 in damage to the business.
"I've taken my vehicle there personally and been really, really happy with their service and their honesty. And certainly hope that they get to rebuild it and keep going because I'd hate to see them lose it over this," said Helena Klippenstein, who also saw the fire.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, but Winnipeg police say arson is not suspected. They say there were no injuries.
