Two Yazidi families set to arrive in Winnipeg last week had a frightening delay.
A terrorist attack at an Istanbul airport on June 28 happened just before the families arrived at the airport.
They're set to come to Winnipeg as part of Operation Ezra, organized in part, by Nafiyah Naso.
The group is the only comprehensive Yazidi refugee relief program in Canada.
“They’re really scared,” said Naso. “They came from a refugee camp. The refugee camp was Yazidi-only camp. It was their entire community in the camp.
“Now being Istanbul, it’s a huge city and they don’t know anybody there. They’re scared to go out. The only time they leave their room is when they go for meals.”
Operation Ezra hopes to bring seven refugee Yazidi families to Winnipeg.
The delayed families will arrive in the city on July 11.
