CTV News has learned a 15-year old girl, who was viciously beaten and left lying in a downtown parkade, has been taken off life support.

The hope was she would make a full recovery, but that hope is fading.

The girl's mother, who asked not to be identified, told CTV "She's a good kid, athletic. (She) loved life, received plenty of awards, scholarships. She played violin very well."

The girl's family made the heart wrenching decision Wednesday, and spent the night by her side.

The girl was in a medically induced coma, and despite her severe injuries, her family expressed hope she would recover.

"It’s every mother’s worst nightmare. That anyone could ever imagine," said her mother "every day is harder to live. To just keep coping. I have other children and I’m trying to stay strong for them."

The teen was in the care of Child and Family Services, staying at a nearby hotel when she was assaulted.

Wednesday night, at Health Sciences Centre, the girl's mother had harsh words for CFS, "I strongly advise people not to ask CFS for help because of my circumstance," she said.

A 15-year-old boy is charged in the beating.

CTV has been told homicide investigators are now looking into the possibility of upgrading those charges.

Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak Grand Chief, David Harper spoke to CTV Wednesday night, "she is breathing on her own and according the family they will be making a statement tomorrow," he said.
