An 18-year-old man has died following a shooting in which multiple gunshots were fired at a home in the North End late Thursday night.

Officers were called to the shooting just after 11:50 p.m. in the 100 block of McKenzie Street. CTV News has learned the victim is Dylan Ferland.

Police said the shooting was not a random attack. Up to 10 shots were fired.

"It does appear that this particular residence and possibly the victim in this matter were targeted," said Const. Jason Michalyshen, a spokesperson for Winnipeg police.

"It's sad, very sad, that the family loses such a young fellow in their (lives)," said Ken Constant, who lives in the neighbourhood where the shooting happened.

Officers said the victim was known to police but are still trying to determine why he was shot. Ferland didn't live at the home where the shooting happened, and was visiting at the time. He was standing outside the house when the shots were fired.

Ferland was shot more than once in the upper body and was rushed to hospital in critical condition, but died from injuries, said police.

CTV News has learned the victim had ties to a Winnipeg street gang.

Officers won't confirm if that had anything to do with the shooting, but are investigating that possibility.

Police are investigating a number of possibilities, such as whether the incident was a drive-by shooting or a fight that broke out. Officers are also working to determine whether one or more suspects were involved.

So far, no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to contact police at 986-6508, or Crime Stoppers at 786-8477.
