According to Elections Canada, voters are taking advantage of advance polls.
They said that on Friday, opening day for advance polls, about 850 thousand people voted.
That means 26 per cent more people cast an early ballot this year in comparison to numbers in 2011 and 90 per cent more than in 2008.
Chris Adams, a political analyst, said that these numbers mean a change could be in the air and that candidates have been working hard to get people to vote.
“We know that when voters think that their vote counts, they are more willing to go out. They won’t think that they are wasting their votes. So I think a lot of people think that they’re in ridings that are in play, and I know in the Winnipeg area, almost all the ridings are in play. So voters really think that their vote has an impact,” said Adams.
Advance polls are open throughout the Thanksgiving weekend from noon to 8:00 p.m.
