A new art gallery along the riverwalk in Winnipeg isn't letting vandals stop their grand opening Thursday night.

Artist Anna Robinson and members from the Chris and Kine Artist Collective spent their last day before the big show doing repairs.

The gallery is the shape of an upside down York Boat, a boat used in the time of the voyageurs.

Robinson said the vandals slashed and dented one of the walls.

She believes a group used hockey sticks to damage the gallery.

"It was a little bit disappointing to see that people had damaged our work,” said Robinson.

She said the collective has poured hundreds of hours into the gallery and cost $15,000 to build.

The gallery is free to the public, and opens Jan. 22 at 7 p.m.
