The Assiniboine River at Brandon rose slightly due to heavy rain on the weekend, but should now begin to fall.

The river crested early Saturday morning and the province says existing flood protection in the city is holding.

The Assiniboine is rising at the Portage Diversion as the crest makes its way downstream but the province says the dikes have been strengthened and should be able to handle the extra flows.

The province says a Canadian Armed Forces Aurora aircraft will continue to assist with monitoring the dikes and the diversion.
