Brandon police are investigating after a city worker discovered a body along the Assiniboine River on Tuesday.

"The matter is currently being considered as suspicious in nature and no cause has been ruled out," said police in a release.

An operator working with a tree salvage crew hired by the City of Brandon was clearing an area near 26th Street North along the river bank around 7:32 p.m. Feb. 25 when he discovered the body west of the entrance to Queen Elizabeth Park.

Police confirmed that they had found human remains. Members of the forensic identification unit and criminal investigation unit are investigating.

According to a media release from the Brandon police, the remains do not appear to be recent.

Brandon police say investigators will attempt to identify the remains and determine the cause of death.
