Boxing Day shoppers braved the cold for hours, anticipating the opening of stores across the city.

Some had been waiting in line since Tuesday evening.

Thousands of Winnipeggers flooded malls and stores in search of the best bang for their buck.

The General Manager of the Future Shop in St. James said more than 500 people had already rushed into the store within half an hour of the doors opening.

“I was actually very surprised with it being how cold it is and the lineup that we had outside, said Michael Melo. “It just shows our Winnipeg shoppers…they'll do anything for a deal here so that’s really nice to see”

According to a survey from the Bank of Montreal, two thirds of Canadians were expected to shop this Boxing Day.
