New Liberal MP Jim Carr took a page from the old Winnipeg Jets as he entered his election headquarters in Winnipeg South Centre on Monday.

Carr arrived to cheers with Van Halen's "Jump" roaring in the background.

"What a victory for Justin Trudeau. What a victory for the Liberal Party of Canada," said Carr at the podium during his victory speech at the Coboto Centre.

"The people of Winnipeg South Centre say they're ready, and I'm ready to be your member of parliament," he said.

Carr defeated incumbent conservative MP Joyce Bateman soundly. Bateman won the traditionally Liberal riding in 2011, taking it from former Liberal MP Anita Neville.

"I am delighted, I am absolutely delighted. He ran a superb campaign," said Neville.

When asked about cabint posts, Carr, a former provincial MLA, was asked if he's hoping for a seat at the big table.

"I am the member of parliament for Winnipeg South Centre and I don't think about anything else," said Carr.

CTV was unable to reach Joyce Bateman.
