Crews have called off the sandbagging efforts at a seasonal residence in the RM of St. Francois Xavier.
Crews were on hand Wednesday morning at 8 a.m. to build a dike but the water levels had risen too high.
“The water (is) rising enough that there are significant safety implications," said Robert Poirier, the chief administrative officer for the RM.
The residence is still 24 inches above ground. Crews were trying to install 15 inches of freeboard to further protect it.
"We can't do that under these circumstances, so we're stopping work,” said Poirier.
He said he's confident the cottage will be OK, according to the province's latest water level estimates.
As for all the other homes in the area, Poirier said every home that needed to be sandbagged has been completed.
