A doctor accused of sexually assaulting a teenage hospital patient in Winnipeg has been granted bail.

Twenty-nine-year-old Walid Abdelhamid was released from the Winnipeg Remand Centre late yesterday afternoon.   He posted $5000 bond and turned his passport over to the court.

Details of the bail hearing cannot be printed due to a publication ban.

Abdelhamid hid his face under a hoodie as he walked out of the remand centre accompanied by a lawyer and drove off in a van.

He did not speak to reporters.

Abdelhamid has been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, and sexual exploitation.

His case has been remanded to July 22nd.

Police allege the victim was sexually assaulted two times between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. Monday.

Abdelhamid is a foreign medical resident in the University of Manitoba's faculty of medicine.

He has been working at the Health Sciences Centre for two years.

Abdelhamid has been suspended from all work and university activities.
