The number of fires in Winnipeg has dropped significantly between 2012 and 2013.
The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service announced Wednesday that the total number of fires in 2013 is down 31 per cent from 2012.
In 2012, there were 2,818 fires recorded by the provincial office of the fire commissioner, compared to 1,946 in 2013.
The WFPS said arson in 2013 is also down 41 per cent since 2012.
There was 352 arsons in 2013, compared to 598 the year previous.
Officials believe this is due to collaboration between city departments, an emphasis on public education and the removal of 5,000 AutoBins.
