A major highway connecting Winnipeg to southern Manitoba communities and the U.S. may not have to close this year after flood forecasters downgraded the threat of flooding on the Red River.
The latest provincial flood outlook said PTH 75 at Morris might not have to close. A new forecast for the Red River downgraded expected water levels. A peak flow of 45,000 to 55,000 cubic feet per second is expected at Emerson between May 7 and 11.
Highway 75 has often been forced to close during past flood seasons due to overland flooding, cutting off access to communities along that route. Officials had earlier expected to put a detour in place.
