The team of a young hockey player paralyzed during a game is trying to raise money to help him.

The Portage Terriers will hold a 50/50 draw, worth $1,500, during their game against the Selkirk Steelers at the Portage Credit Union Centre in Portage La Prairie Saturday night.

Proceeds will go towards the family of Braden Pettinger, who was injured during a game on Nov. 12. The 20-year-old defenceman suffered serious injuries after crashing head-first into the boards in the final minutes of the game.

The Manitoba hockey community has stepped up to try and help Pettinger. The Manitoba Junior Hockey League set up a GoFundMe page to collect donations for Pettinger, which so far has raised more than $108,000.

The Brandon Wheat Kings donated all proceeds from their “chuck-a-puck” event during Friday’s game against the Regina. The Winkler Royals will donate all proceeds from ticket sales and their 50/50 draw during their game on Sunday.
