Hundreds turned out at funeral services on Monday for a promising young hockey player who died last week.

19-year old Jordan Mistelbacher was found dead last Tuesday morning at a friend's house.

He had been out celebrating his birthday the night before.

His family believes he died after drinking too much, and his father has been speaking out about binge-drinking.

Mistelbacher had just returned home to Winnipeg after playing for a hockey team in Washington State.

He was supposed to start playing for the Winnipeg Saints last Friday.

Friends and family have been sharing their grief on the popular Facebook internet social networking site.

Jordan's sister Brittany says they shared a special bond.

"Over the last few years he was away a lot. He always texted Tyler and I to make sure we were alright even if he was in the next bedroom he would text me to say goodnight.

Team-mates and friends paid their respects in unison.

"Forever friends, forever brothers forever in our hearts brother we'll never forget you, love you buddy," they said.

Mistelbacher's #18 hockey jersey was draped over his coffin at St. Bernadette Parish.
