Several major crashes kept emergency crews busy Wednesday evening.

In the first, a female pedestrian was struck while crossing Portage Avenue at Ferry Road just before 4 p.m. She was taken to hospital and is now in stable condition.

Later, emergency crews had to extricate the driver of a vehicle that crashed on Watt Street. A pickup truck was driving down Watt when it collided with a car, sending it into a snowbank.

Police had to block Watt between Neil Avenue and Sydney Avenue for several hours.

Finally, a car slammed into a pole on King Street and William Avenue, badly damaging its front end.
