SOCHI, Russia - Skip Jennifer Jones and Canada's women's Olympic curling team are now a perfect 8-0 after a 7-6 win over the United States in 11 ends on Sunday.
Jones continued her stellar play, scoring a single on the final throw of the extra end. The victory guarantees Canada the top seed in the playoffs.
The United States (1-7) stole a point in the 10th end when Jones's hammer shot was thrown too heavily.
Canada built a 3-0 lead after two ends, but the Americans scored three in the third to tie it.
The two rinks traded points in the fourth and fifth ends, before Canada took a 5-4 lead in the sixth. Jones would add a point in the seventh.
American skip Erika Brown earned a point in the eighth to make it 6-5 and a scoreless ninth gave Canada the hammer for the 10th.
Sweden joined Canada in the semifinals of the women's tournament, thanks to its 5-4 win over Russia and Switzerland's extra-end loss to Japan.
Switzerland's 9-7 loss puts the team at 4-4 and in danger of missing the semifinals. The Swiss will have to beat China in their last game to stand a chance of qualifying.
Denmark beat South Korea 7-4 in the afternoon session's other game.
