Three local candidates outlined their environmental policies at a forum Tuesday night.
The forum was hosted by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, Green Action Centre, the Green Action Committee of the First Unitarian Universalist Church and Manitoba Eco-Network.
Liberal candidate for Winnipeg Centre Robert-Falcon Ouellette, NDP candidate for Winnipeg South Centre Matt Henderson and Green Party candidate for Winnipeg South Centre Andrew Park attended.
Organizers said they invited the Conservative Party, but no one agreed to come.
Candidates answered questions about clean water, fossil fuels and carbon emissions.
Megan Krohn with Manitoba Eco-Network wants environmental issues to play a key role before and after the federal election.
“Environment is so important because we think about things like the economy and health and we think of those as separate from the environment, but they're actually tied in completely,” Krohn said.
“When you look at the economy there's green jobs. There's the fact that with changes in climate, that is killing some jobs in some places."
About 100 people attended the forum at the First Unitarian Universalist Church on Wellington Crescent.
