A steady stream of walkers clad in purple flooded the streets outside St. John’s-Ravenscourt School Friday in honour of Kendra’s Walk.
The event commemorates Kendra McBain, a former SJR student who died in December of 2009 after battling a rare form of cancer.
McBain started the event in 2009 to raise money to create a special place for teenagers at CancerCare Manitoba.
Participants in the walk wear purple, a colour chosen by McBain to represent teens living with cancer.
Past walks have raised over $730,000.
Funds from this year’s event will go towards clinic trials for teenagers.
Earlier this month, McBain’s mother Tammy along with 20 others also cut their hair to be donated to Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths wig program.
