A funnel cloud that formed just south of Winnipeg Monday evening was not expected by Environment Canada.
Environment Canada said the funnel cloud was part of a small thunderstorm in front of a larger system that was being tracked.
The government agency did not put out a tornado watch or warning because it says there was no expectation the cloud would touch down and it only lasted a couple of minutes.
A spokesperson said they didn't want to put out a watch or a warning for an event that had already run its course.
Environment Canada had issued a thunderstorm watch Monday before the funnel cloud appeared. It said people should take the same precautions for a thunderstorm as they would a tornado because lightning kills more people every year compared to other severe weather.
