A first-degree murder trial got underway in Winnipeg Monday morning.
Thomas Brine is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 73-year-old Elizabeth Lafantaisie.
Lafantaisie was reported missing in February 2011. Her body was found in the trunk of her car days later.
The Crown alleges Brine strangled and sexually assaulted Lafantaisie in a parkade in the south end of the city.
The first witness, who is an officer with the Winnipeg Police Service's forensics department, took the stand Monday morning.
The trial by jury is scheduled to run to February 26, 2016.
