WINNIPEG - The New Democrats will not be challenged for a Winnipeg seat their candidate won by just 51 votes.
Daniel Blaikie, who ran for the NDP in Elmwood-Transcona, says in a Facebook message that he received a call from Conservative incumbent Lawrence Toet.
Blaikie says Toet told him he will not be asking for a recount and congratulated him on winning.
He says he thanked his rival for the call and for a hard-fought campaign.
Blaikie is the son of NDP stalwart Bill Blaikie, who held the Winnipeg riding for 30 years before retiring in 2008.
Blaikie holds the lone NDP seat in Winnipeg after longtime MP Pat Martin lost his seat of 18 years in the Liberal surge across the city's ridings.
