Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister says the election of Doug Ford in Ontario does not change his plan to bring in a carbon tax in Manitoba.
Ford's Progressive Conservatives have promised to fight federal demands for a carbon tax, as has the Saskatchewan Party government in that province.
But Pallister says his Tories are moving ahead with a $25-per-tonne levy later this year.
Pallister says Manitoba's plan will help the environment without hurting the economy.
He also says Ontario may find it difficult to dismantle its climate change program, which includes a cap-and-trade component.
Pallister says Ford's government might have to spend billions of dollars to unwind its approach to controlling greenhouse gas emissions.
