Manitobans are being invited to learn about the business of agriculture directly from local farmers on Sunday, said Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives Minister Ron Kostyshyn.

Over 60 farms are participating in the fourth-annual Open Farm Day on Sept. 15.

"With many things to do and types of farms to visit, there is truly something for everyone to learn and explore on Open Farm Day," said Kostyshyn in a statement.

Visitors can meet local producers, learn about farming techniques and participate in activities, said Kostyshyn. Farmers will be sharing their stories, marketing products and show casing life on the farm.

A new addition to this year’s event is the ability for geocachers to hunt for caches located at several participating farms.

Farmer Cory Lomax of Wildfire Farms will be inviting the public to his family farm in the Tolstoi area.

“This is a great program, a great way for people to come out and enjoy a day of learning,” he said.

His farm will feature 100 per cent grass-fed beef, free-range chickens and laying hens, an heirloom vegetable garden and an on-site farmers' market.

Since 2010, Open Farm Day has continued to grow, with 51 farms hosting more than 4,600 visitors last year.

More information about the event can be found on the Open Farm Day website.
