A spokesperson for Brian Pallister said the new leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba will seek the nomination from the party to run in a September byelection.

The province announced the Fort Whyte byelection will be held on Sept. 4 to fill the seat left empty when former PC leader Hugh McFadyen officially stepped down on July 30.

Nominations for the seat will close later this month on Aug. 20, with advance polls opening just five days later on Aug. 25. Advance polls will run until Sept 1.

Brian Pallister was named the new leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba on July 30.

Representatives from the PC party said they will hold a nomination meeting next week to determine who will represent the party in the byelection.

The NDP has announced its candidate for the byelection race will be Brandy Schmidt.
