NDP Candidate Pat Martin isn’t apologizing for the tone of the campaign in Winnipeg Centre during the federal election.
“I don’t call it negative. I call it animated and spirited, and passionate. I mean we have an interesting diverse riding, with an interesting diverse field of candidates, and we care passionately about things,” Martin said.
On the tone of the campaign in Winnipeg Centre Martin said, “I don’t apologize when sometimes the appropriate response is to government issues is outrage,” he said.
“I’ve been outraged before. I’ve been outraged a lot during my 18 years in public office. Somethings need to be spoken”.
When asked directly if he had any regrets, Martin said, “we are doing our very best in this campaign.”
During the 11-week campaign, candidate signs were vandalized in Winnipeg Centre and fraudulent candidate flyer were distributed in the riding.
Martin asked CTV to leave an Art City event in West Broadway giving kids the chance to ask the candidate questions. His campaign said at the time it was a private event and the media was not invited.
At debate downtown on September 16, Martin directed some salty language at Green Party candidate Don Woodstock saying "You son of a b----.” Martin later apologized.
Martin invited the media to his campaign office Saturday to make a statement about Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau’s campaign co-chair resigning after an email was sent to Trans-Canada detailing how to target the right people in a new government.
