At least two instances of poppy donation box theft have been reported on Henderson Highway following the weekend.

Staff at Perkins Family Restaurant on Henderson Highway said a poppy donation box was stolen Sunday afternoon around 3:00 p.m.

There is also a report of a poppy box theft from the Boston Pizza location on Henderson Highway.

Manager of operations Jonathan Enright said the alleged theft happened Sunday evening.

Enright said this is the first time a poppy donation box has been stolen from that location, and the surveillance tapes have been turned over to police.

“It’s disappointing and disrespectful that people would stoop that low,” said Enright. "It’s been a sad experience.”

Donations from poppy sales go to the Poppy Fund, which supports veterans and their families.

Winnipeg Police are aware of one poppy box theft in the area, and are investigating.

There were at least three poppy donation box thefts last November in Winnipeg.
