Provincial investigators have seized more than 900 thousand cigarettes, the Manitoba government said Wednesday.

Manitoba Finance said its Special Investigations Unit seized 910,200 contraband cigarettes contained in unmarked plastic bags on Feb. 21, along with 65 pounds of marijuana.

One adult male from Winnipeg was arrested. If convicted, the man would face fines of up to $5,000, imprisonment for as long as three months or both. A tax penalty of $559,773 could also be assessed.

During the first two weeks of February, two unrelated seizures were also made, seizing a combined 390 thousand cigarettes.
