It's an anniversary marked with a pledge to continue the search for missing Amber McFarland.

"The word anniversary unfortunately this one is not one of happiness because it's the day that Amber McFarland left and we don't know where she is," said Const. David Portelance from the RCMP.

Police said Amber McFarland was last seen in Portage la Prairie during the early hours of the morning on Oct. 18, 2008. She was 24 when she went missing.

Six years later, the RCMP historical case unit continues to investigate.

"I couldn't believe, in two weeks, we hadn't found her. Never in our wildest dreams (thought) that we would be here six years later," said Lori McFarland, Amber's mother.

"(Amber) was a very kind, energetic person," she said.

Portelance said the public should not assume the RCMP knows what they know.

He said several important questions still remain unanswered.

"Some people might know little details that they think irrelevant or they think we already know but we might not,” he said.

Details the McFarland's hope, will bring justice for their daughter, whose life they miss but remember daily. "We always have our Amber weekend, where we get together and we reminisce. but she's never far from our hearts and our mind, on any day," Lori said.

RCMP asks anyone who knows anything relating to the McFarland's disappearance to contact the RCMP Historical Case Unit at (204) 984-6447 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
