RCMP are asking boys and men from a Northern Manitoba First Nation to provide DNA samples.

The unusual request is being made of men aged 15 to 66 on Garden Hill First Nation.

Sargent Bert Paquet of Manitoba RCMP told CTV News it is in relation to the murder of Teresa Robinson, which has remained an active case since officers were first contacted and deployed to Garden Hill in the spring of 2015.

The 11-year-old’s remains were found last May during a search of the area. She had left a birthday party several days earlier and did not return home.

“While we are not in a position to discuss all the specifics of this ongoing case, we can confirm that our investigators have collected DNA samples from males of Garden Hill First Nation as one of several techniques used by officers assigned to the case,” Sgt. Paquet said in a written statement to CTV News.

“Our investigators have been and will continue to utilize all available resources and investigative techniques in order to solve this horrible crime and bring closure to the family and the community.”

RCMP are treating her death as a homicide.

Garden Hill is located about 650 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg.
