Below seasonal temperatures continue across southern Manitoba with no warm up in sight for at least a week.

For reference, Winnipeg's normal daytime high for this time in October is 8C. But we will be lucky to see temperatures rise above the freezing mark over the next several days. We will today, but just barely. By Friday, forecast highs are sub-zero until the middle of next week!

A low pressure system hitting the Dakotas and Minnesota hard today may spread a touch of light snow on its northern edge into Brandon and surrounding areas this afternoon. There's an even a chance of overnight flurries in WInnipeg, but those odds are low.

That doesn't mean Manitoba gets a pass with this one. Strong northwest winds will develop behind the system. That means areas in the lee of Lake Winnipeg could see heavy, lake effect snow. Berens River and Poplar River regions are under a snow squall watch and could potentially get as much as 20-30 cm of snow starting tonight right through the weekend. This, after Berens River already dealt with the same thing last weekend.

Snow squalls are also possible today and tonight in northwest in winds coming off of the south end of Reindeer Lake. The Lynn Lake region is under a snow squall watch although the town of Lynn Lake is expected to be spared.
