Long waits for least two advance polling stations in Winnipeg frustrated voters on Friday.
In one case, a man tore up his voter card at Crescentwood Community Centre after he was told there would be a two-hour wait. The man said he was leaving on a trip in two hours and had no time to wait. He said he would not be able to vote on election night.
Voters also told CTV News there were long lineups to vote at a polling station at Riverwood Square. Wanda Bretecher said she waited for more than an hour.
Marie-France Kenny with Elections Canada said the first day of advanced polling tends to bring out a large number of voters.
Kenny said wait times and lineups can vary at different polling stations.
She said if you’re not already on Elections Canada voters’ list, pre-registering on the Elections Canada website can help speed up the voting process for when you arrive at an advanced poll.
Elections Canada did not say whether more voting stations would be added to help ease wait times.
