A reduced speed limit in a school zone has been reversed thanks to a high volume of complaints from residents in the Tuxedo area.
During the school year, the speed limit on Wellington Crescent near Gray Academy of Jewish Education, was 30 km/h.
As of October 1, the 30 km/h speed limit signs were removed and the speed limit is back up to 50 km/h.
Area councillor, Marty Morantz, said motorists were unhappy with the reduced speed limit, and made numerous complaints.
Morantz asked the city to amend the bylaw, and the school agreed with the change.
“I am very much a supporter of school zones. Just this particular school zone didn't make sense for the community," said Morantz.
The Winnipeg Police Service said it issued 1,300 tickets when the speed limit was 30 km/hr.
They said that anyone who received a ticket, still has to pay, as that was the law at the time.
