Two teen girls have been charged after a string of violent robberies in the Fort Rouge area over the past three weeks.

According to police, a 29-year-old man was assaulted by two suspects near Osborne Street and Pembina Highway on November 26, after refusing to give them a cigarette. Police said the suspects attempted unsuccessfully to rob him and fled.

Two days later on Grant Avenue, a 40-year-old woman was robbed by two armed suspects who also assaulted her, said police.  Then last Thursday, a 17-year-old girl was robbed and assaulted at Grant Avenue and Stafford Street.

On Saturday, police said they took two suspects into custody in the Polo Park area in connection with the incidents.

Two teen girls, aged 15 and 16, are facing several charges, including robbery with a weapon, police said. They are both being detained at the Manitoba Youth Centre.
