A top political scientist in Winnipeg says the Liberals are set to make a splash in Manitoba.
Right now the federal Conservatives dominate Manitoba with 11 of 14 seats. The NDP has two and the Liberals have one.
Paul Thomas, a political scientist, says that's about to change.
"The winner here come Monday, will be Liberals," said Thomas.
Thomas predicts the Liberals will be the only party to make gains in Manitoba on election day. He says there's a good chance the Liberals could turn three seats from blue to red: Winnipeg South, Winnipeg South-Centre and St. Boniface-St.Vital. He says there's an outside chance of flipping Winnipeg Centre, an NDP stronghold.
"The contest is really in Winnipeg and it should be exciting to watch."
A sign the Liberals smell victory in Manitoba, Justin Trudeau is coming to Winnipeg this weekend for a third visit on the eve of the election.
But Thomas predicts the Conservatives will still keep a lot of seats in Manitoba, in particular on the edges of Winnipeg and beyond.
“They've got built in entrenched Conservative supporters in rural Manitoba,” said Thomas.
