Monday afternoon, the province said wind alerts were in effect for sections of Lake Winnipeg and Lake Manitoba.

"Strong wind warnings are in effect for the south basin of Lake Winnipeg and Lake Manitoba just north of the Narrows, with winds from the north at 37 to 55 km/h," said provincial officials.

"Manitoba Water Stewardship advises this wind speed and direction will result in wave action and wind setup of greater than three feet and in the south basin of Lake Winnipeg and one to two feet on Lake Manitoba," said the province.

The winds are expected to begin Monday night and build on Tuesday in the area.
