A wolf was killed Tuesday for being suspected of killing a family pet near Bird's Hill Provincial Park.

Conservation officials trapped and killed the wolf Tuesday after the remains of a family pet were found a few weeks prior.

Janelle Carlson found the remains of her Chihuahua-Pinscher cross near her home about two weeks ago. Carlson said it's upsetting the wolf had to be killed, but said the animal could have been a danger to other pets.

Officials aren't certain if they've killed the wolf that ate the woman's pet dog, they said. Other wolves have been sighted in the area.

Conservation officials said they will continue to monitor the area but are removing traps for the weekend in anticipation of more visitors coming to the park.
