The weather outside might be frightful, but that didn't stop a group of Winnipegers from rolling up their sleeves for a marathon of bike building.

The Cycle of Giving is a 24-hour bike-building marathon. The event, which started on Saturday, aims to take broken bikes and assorted parts and turn them into at least 250 working bikes.

Each one will then be donated to Winnipeg children in need.

“A lot of us have known what bicycles have meant to us in our life, and every kid should have the joy of being able to ride their own bike,” said organizer Pat Krawec.

“And we've seen it, because we provide programming for kids all year round, and it can really change a life.”

This is the third year for the Cycle of Giving.

If you'd like to help out, just drop an old or even broken children’s bike off at 448 Burnell St. It will be fixed up, and given away.
