A Manitoba cheese manufacturer will resume production Tuesday evening after a pipeline explosion in another community left it without power for two days.
Two full days of production at Bothwell Cheese in New Bothwell, Man. were lost because of the gas pipeline explosion on the weekend in Otterburne.
"You don't get those days back. Once the days are gone, they're gone. And we produce about 17,000 kilograms of cheese every day, so that's a lot of cheese that we're not going to be able to produce now for the marketplace,” said Ivan Balenovic, president and CEO of Bothwell Cheese.
Because demand is lower at the start of the year, however, he said they can draw from existing inventory, but their dairy suppliers will have to find another spot to unload some milk.
It’s not yet known exactly how much money was lost because of the temporary shutdown.
TransCanada Pipeline has told the company it will compensate them for losses.
