The next phase of Bus Rapid Transit has cleared one of the last major hurdles at city hall.

The mayor's Executive Policy Committee voted 4-1 in favour of the $590 million bus line that will run from Jubilee Avenue to the University of Manitoba.

Citing a lack of planning, Coun. Justin Swandel voted against it.

For final approval, the project needs council on board next week.

Councillors Grant Nordman and Jeff Browaty were not at the meeting Wednesday. Browaty has a motion set for council to put the brakes on BRT, until voters have their say in a referendum on election day.
