A Winnipeg mother reported to CFS for letting her children play in the backyard alone "will" have a file on record.

The province says the woman's file won’t be erased to ensure follow-up has occurred, and documentation and records can be accessed in the event that a future concern was reported.

This is what Jacqui Kendrick told CTV News Thursday she was most upset about.

The mother of three said she's afraid whoever filed the report will do so again if she lets her kids play outside in the family's fenced back yard, something they love to do.

Kendrick said she is always home when her children ages 10, 5 and 2 are playing outside, and can see them from the window if she's inside the house.

The province said CFS is obliged to follow up to ensure the safety of children, and determine if any further services are required.

If there is no concern, the file would be closed, but not erased.

The province said people can contact CFS or the Child and Family Service Authority if they have a question or complaint about the agency.
