The mother of a baby girl that died after being in medical distress is charged with the failure to provide the necessaries of life and criminal negligence causing death.

RCMP were called to a home in the residential area of Dominion Bay in Thompson on Sunday at 10:20 p.m. after receiving a report of a 3-month-old infant in medical distress.

When officers arrived on scene, police said emergency personnel immediately provided medical care to the baby.

She was transported to hospital but was pronounced dead the same evening.

A one-year-old male child was also located at the scene and was transported to hospital as a precaution.

RCMP charged the mother of the infant, Julienne Towers, 22, with the failure to provide the necessaries of life, criminal negligence causing death and adult abandon child.

Towers is scheduled to appear in provincial court in Thompson on Sept. 1.
