The children’s book, TinTin in America has been put under the Winnipeg Public Library’s adult graphic novel collection after being reviewed for its stereotypical depictions of indigenous people.

The library said it pulled the copies of the book while it was under review.

The library based its decision on several factors including literature reviews, public input and issues of social responsibly and intellectual freedom.

As part of the adult graphic novel collection, the book will be available for parents and adults to access. The library said individuals can use the book for research purposes or to carry on discussions with their children.

In a release, the Winnipeg Public Library says it makes decisions on items in their collections based on its selection guidelines.
