A Winnipeg city councilor who spent a night in the drunk tank now says the police service did nothing wrong by calling Mayor Brian Bowman.

In a statement, Eadie said he’s met with police and says no undo treatment was given in this situation. Instead, Eadie said both parties were trying to help him.

“Given I work at city hall with the mayor and his office, there was a logical attempt to find an alternative to the Main Street Project on my behalf,” said Eadie

The councillor had questioned why police informed the mayor’s office about his indiscretion saying the mayor is not his boss.

Eadie likely passed out in a cab early Saturday morning and may have become combative with the driver and others.

Mayor Bowman confirmed he was called by Police Chief Devon Clunis about the matter.

On Monday, ethics professor Arthur Schafer accused the police service of breaching Eadie’s privacy rights.
