Two city councillors want to give Winnipeg homeowners the ability to directly pay for repairs on their gravel roads.

Councillors Jeff Browaty and Brian Mayes said the city should explore cost sharing options with residents living on gravel roads. The fixes could include chip sealing, asphalt or concrete.

The plan would be similar to a current back lane program where homeowners pay $4,000 more on their property tax bills if 60 per cent of residents on the street agree to the upgrades.
