A Winnipeg woman who killed five people in 2011 by setting a rooming house on fire will stay behind bars.

The Manitoba Court of Appeal upheld the life sentence handed to Lulonda Flett for arson and manslaughter.

The court granted leave to appeal the sentence but then dismissed the motion hours later.

Following an ongoing dispute with some of the people staying in the house, Flett set fire to a couch on the porch of the property.

She will be eligible for parole in 2018.
