Donations are pouring in for the family devastated by the fatal fire near Kane on Wednesday.

A Go Fund Me campaign has raised thousands for the Froese family so far.

Only smoke and ash remain of the family home after a blaze burned it to the ground, claiming the lives of four young boys.

Crews responded to the fire two kilometres outside of Kane on Feb. 25.

When the father and an older son arrived home around midnight, they found the house engulfed in flames and called 911.

When firefighters pulled in, there was nothing they could do.

"It was a two-storey bungalow with an addition on the side of it. By the time they had arrived, it was fully engulfed and the walls had collapsed,” said Bernard Schellenberg, RM of Morris fire chief.

Kane is about 95 kilometres southwest of Winnipeg.

“The three youngest children were saved by the mother. The four older children who were in the second level of a two-storey home perished in the blaze," said Ralph Groening, reeve for the RM of Morris.

The flag has been lowered at Rosenort School where one boy attended high school.

Red River Valley School Division's superintendent said counsellors are available for students there and at Lowe Farm School, where the other three sons went to school.

Support is also pouring in from the community. A local church has even donated a home.

The fire is under investigation by the Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner and the RCMP, Schellenberg said.

"Our crews did the best they could with the conditions they had,” he said.

Both the mother and father were sent to hospital.

The three youngest kids, aged two, five and eight, are staying with a family friend.

"It is a tragedy that will take a long time for them and for us to recover from,” said Groening.

Access Credit Union branches have set up an account for donations to help the family, under the name “Kane Fire Victims.”

Donations can be made inside any branch of the Access Credit Union. If people want to send in donations they can send them to:

Access Credit Union, Lowe Farm Branch, Box 265, Lowe Farm, Manitoba, R0G 1E0

The RM of Morris said cheques should be made payable to Access Credit Union Ltd.

Groening says, furniture and clothing donations will likely also be needed by the family in the coming days.

More information on helping the family is available on the RM's website.
